HAMMOND, Muriel "Verna" ~ Age 95, of Burlington, Kings Co., N.S., passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on April 26, 1929, in West Saint John, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late George S. and Muriel R. (Hargrove) Miller.
Verna was a lifetime member of Burlington & District Women's Institute. She had been a member of A.A. for 57 years.
Verna and her late husband were stationed at various Air Force bases in Canada and in Germany, during Gregory's military career, retiring to Berwick.
She had been employed at Mountain View Home, Waterville, and later at Detox Unit at Miller Hospital, Kentville, until her retirement.
Surviving are her children, Sheila Peelar (Debi), Kentville; Susan (Ian) Clark, Greenwood Square; Gordon Hammond (Barb), Dean; Cindy Lou Hiltz (Jeff), Burlington; Greg "Tiger" Hammond (Andrea), Windermere; Simone Manley, Halifax; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brother, Gordon Miller, Saint John, New Brunswick; nieces and nephews. Verna will be remembered by her devoted friend, Diane Reeves. Verna dearly loved her cat, Garfunkel.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Gregory H. "Greg" Hammond; son, David Gregory in infancy; son-in-law, Bill Hiltz; brothers, Harold and Dr. Lewis Miller.
All are welcome to attend a graveside service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31 , in Burlington Cemetery, with Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating with a reception and time in celebration of Verna's life following at The Farm.
Donations in her memory may be made to Burlington Cemetery Society or CNIB Foundation.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Paramedics Luke and Ashley, as well as the staff at Valley Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Verna.
Dr. Carly McLellan always went above and beyond with her on-going care, which will always be remembered.
