Obituary

Veteran Police Officer Dies


Cross, Murray Angus – 80 yrs., of Windsor formerly of Nictaux Falls, passed away Thursday January 2nd in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary. Born in Middleton, he was the son of the late Stanley and Lillian (Vidito) Cross. In his earlier years he was employed at Martyn's Mill in Nictaux and A.W. Allen and Son in Middleton. In 1960 he joined the Dartmouth City Police Force leaving in 1979 at the rank of Corporal. He then joined the Town of Windsor as Special Constable/By-Law Enforcement Officer retiring in 1999 due to health complications. Murray and Reta owned Windsor Bailiff Services for several years retiring in 2009. Policing was his career but cars were his passion. He was a life member of the Mic Mac A.A.C in Dartmouth. He will be sadly missed but always loved and remembered fondly by his family. He is survived by son, Darrell (Cindy), Kingston; daughter, Valerie (Randy) Deschamps, Codrington, ON; grandchildren, Stanley (Serena) Cross, Winnipeg, MB, Victoria Cross, Halifax; great grandchildren, Addison and Amelia. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his best friend and fiancé, Reta Coffill nee Power on November 27, 2019. Visitation will be held from 7-9 pm Monday January 6th. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday January 7th in Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St., Middleton, N.S. Toll Free 1-855-825-3448. Rev. Dr. Danny Smith officiating. Interment will take place in Nictaux Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Association.
