Obituary

DECKER, Murray Guerdon, Major Ret' d – age 83 of Meadowvale, NS passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Jordan Ferry, Shelburne Co., NS he was a son of the late William and Ethel (Bower) Decker. Murray retired after 33 years as a Navigator with the Royal Canadian Air Force having begun his military service as a Rigger with the Royal Canadian Navy. He loved golfing, square dancing and volunteering at the Greenwood Aviation Museum. Murray was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and was an active member of St. Monica's Roman Catholic Church, Middleton. He is survived by his wife, the former Joan Stark, Meadowvale; sons, Murray Decker (Debbie Nason), Essex, ON; Tom (Kathy) Decker, Truro; sister, Evelyn Perry, Lower Sackville; brothers, Ron (Heather) Decker, Dartmouth; Allen (Florence) Decker, Lake Echo; grandchildren Logan, Heidi, Sara; several nieces and nephews; step-children Michael (Michael) Stark, Toronto; Monica MacPhee, Dartmouth; Kevin Stark (Liz Walsh), Kingston, ON; Carl Stark (Vass Tziritas), Bedford; step-daughter in law Cathy Stark, Acton, ON; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, the former Joan Pottie; daughter Karen Decker and step-son Sydney Stark. In keeping with Murray's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 6:00pm - 8:00pm Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 in St. Monica's Roman Catholic Church, Middleton with Father John MacPherson officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 13, 2018 in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Donations in Murray's memory may be made to The War Amps, Kidney Foundation Atlantic Canada Branch or to a charity of your choice.
