GILLIATT, Murray Arthur-93 of Nictaux, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 in the Veterans Unit Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born April 27, 1917 in Granville Ferry, he was a son of the late Arthur and Viola (Baltzer) Gilliatt. Murray served in the Second World War between 1940 and 1945 with the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Aircraft Technician. He was well known throughout the Western end of the Valley as a painter, with his specialty being Church Steeples. He had a passion for hunting, with his dogs, collecting and acquiring a good deal at the flea market or yard sale. His dry sense of humor gave many a cause to smile and his ability to remember names, dates, places and detail was second to none. He was a former member of the Nictaux & District Volunteer Fire Department and the Middleton Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion as well as the Liberal Association of Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by brothers, Stewart, Harold, Gordon (in infancy), sister, Marion and wife, Elizabeth. He is survived by special friend and companion, Delila Montgomery, Bridgetown; sisters, Nettie Troop, Bridgetown; Audrey Durling, Granville Ferry; Helen (Lionel) Kennedy, Granville Ferry; Barbara Gilliatt, Paradise; sisters-in-law, Ethel Gilliatt, Middleton; Marjorie Gilliatt, Peterborough, ON; sons, Brian (Susan) Richardson, Falmouth; Dale (Elinor) Richardson, Upper Tantallon and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. At Murrays request there will be No Visitation, cremation has taken place. A graveside service which will include a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute, will take place 2:00PM, Thursday, March, 10, 2011 at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Annapolis Royal, with Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of the Veterans Unit at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care of Murray during his stay. Family and friends are invited to meet at the Royal Canadian Legion in Annapolis Royal following the service to reflect and commemorate Murrays life. No flowers by request of the family.
