Nancy Rae (Jayne) Denton

Born March 13 ^th 1950 & Died Dec 24 ^th 2019.

Nancy Rae (Jayne) Denton, 69yrs, of Digby, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Eve with her daughter Katherine, son Jason and grand-daughter Chelsea by her side.

Nancy was born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia on March 13 ^th , 1950. Her parents were Reigh Jayne and Faye (Moses) Jayne. Nancy and her sister Karen Shaw moved to Digby as young girls as their parents founded Jayne's Funeral Home. She graduated from St. Patrick's Business College in 1968, and after having her two children Katherine and Jason, Nancy became a Funeral Director. Nancy and Katherine and Jason's father Brian Denton, owned and operated, Jayne's Funeral Home until the mid 80's.  Nancy remained working at Jayne's until the 90's when  she became a Paramedic and started working for Digby & Annapolis County Ambulance.  In 2000, she became a Realtor with GMAC Real Estate until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 55 years. At that time, she retired.

She was preceded in death by her father Reigh Jayne, mother Faye (Moses) Jayne and her baby sister Susan.

She is survived by her two children, Katherine and Jason Denton and their father Brian (wife Carol) Denton. Katherine's boys Brock and Logan; Jason's girls Chelsea, Allison and Athena.

She is also survived by her dear sister Karen (Steven) Shaw; nephew Craig Shaw, Rebecca and daughter, Lillee; her niece, Kara (Dale) Weir and Olivia, Hannah and Sophie.

Nancy is also survived by her Uncle Mike Moses (wife Janet) and Keeli. Michael, Marsha, Melanie and their mother Sandra. Also Nancy's cousins Elaine, Judy and Shonda on her mother's side and Phyllis, Donald, Linda and Mary Lou Jayne on her father's side.

Other immediate family are Betty (David) Whittington, nephew Craig Archer, Angel, Abagail and William who came to visit many times from Ontario and niece Kristal Archer, Evan, Ryan & Adam.

Over the years Nancy enjoyed spending time with family at "The Lake"; the family cottage at Haines Lake and her parent's home on Porters Lake and later her cottage with Greg Dondale on Haines Lake. Nancy enjoyed swimming, skating, cross country skiing and snow mobile trips when the kids were young.

Nancy took up Tai Chi as it helped her maintain balance after being diagnosed with MS. She was a member of the local Rebekah Lodge and also enjoyed playing bridge.

She lived in Sandy Cove when her children were born and her in-laws Shirley and Bernie Denton lived in Little River. In the early 70's they moved to Digby to take over the family business "Jayne's Funeral Home".

Nancy travelled with Greg to Europe, the Caribbean, across Canada and the U.S. In recent years, she travelled to Panama, the Turks and Caicos Islands with her daughter, just prior to being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Nancy inspired many people with her strength to keep going, no matter what she faced. For years she used ski poles to help with balance. Eventually she needed a walker to get her to and from the car. Many people at Tim Hortons or church would come out to help her put the walker back into the car. In June 2019, Jason gave his mother a power chair to help her get around the house.  She enjoyed riding it up to Tim Hortons, the hospital, church or to be able to ride alongside Katherine so they could go out for a walk. Nancy said, "I should have had one of these a long time ago" but we had offered and would not give in until now. It was a blessing and allowed her to use her energy for other things.

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Grace United Church in Digby, NS at 2 pm.  A reception will follow the service at Grace United Church Hall next door. Pastor Simone Wilson will officiate the ceremony. Donations can be made through the funeral home, to the VON, the Digby/Clare Home Support Agency, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or Pancreatic Cancer Society of Canada.

The family would also like to thank her many friends who came to her aid over the years as she managed life with MS. Her dear friends Patti, Marilyn, Jane and other members of the Grace United Church. Stewart and Gary for driving mom to and from doctor's appointments when we were not available and the Tim Hortons' crew for lending a helping hand.  She was lucky to live in this town her entire life as a wonderful community it is. We would also like to thank the members of the VON and Digby/Clare Home Support Agency for the wonderful work they do to help people stay in their homes and receive a high level of personal care at the same time. As her daughter I have witnessed the importance of their work.
