Backman
May 23, 1936 – March 14, 2021
BACKMAN, Olga ~ Our dear mom, wife, grandmother and great grandmother passed peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2021, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton, after 84 extraordinary years. Mom loved life and did not want to leave us. Sadly, she lost her struggle with cancer. Olga was a beautiful soul; a loving wife and mother, a treasured friend to many, and a long-time volunteer at the local hospital. She was a lover of bridge, an avid traveller, an enthusiastic member of both The Red Hat Society and The Valley Pearls' and could often be found in deep conversations with her many friends over a cup of coffee. A generous and beautiful warm heart, mom never missed celebrating an event with a card and a phone call – big or small. Olga leaves her loving husband of 66 years, Larry; her children, Steven (Anna-Lee), Cathy (Michael), Sharon (Frank), Larry (Nancy); her eight grandchildren, Emily (Daniel), Drew, David, Aleyah, Elizabeth, Daniel, Olivia and Brenna; great-grand-daughter, Kristen; and dear brother, Stephen. Predeceased by her parents, Dorcia and Wasyl; brothers, Peter, John, Michael; and sister, Mary. We have many beautiful and happy memories which we will cherish forever; most recently a large family gathering on an Alaskan Cruise celebrating Olga and Larry's 65th Wedding Anniversary. In keeping with Mom's wishes, a private internment will take place. The family looks forward to welcoming mom's many friends at a "Celebration of her beautiful life" once it is safe to gather again. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448.
