Obituary

DUNN, MARY "OLIVE" (DOYLE) – It is with great sadness her family announces the passing of Olive Dunn, age 83, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS on March 12, 2022. Born April 3, 1938 in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Charles Doyle and Eva (Patterson) Doyle. She worked for 45 years, first as a cashier at Ted's bakery, then as a RCAF clerk (57-58), but the bulk of her career was as an administrative assistant for various employers including Calp's Dept Store, Brockville Lime Quarry and Acre's Real Estate (all in Saint John) and for the last 17 years with the John Howard Society in Calgary until retirement at age 61. Upon retirement she moved to Greenwood, NS to be closer to family and more recently moved to Grace Haven residential care facility in Paradise. Olive had a true fighting Irish spirit, and her greatest accomplishments occurred after retirement where she researched, wrote and published two novels, went back to school for a year and achieved her GED at age 73. Her hobbies and interests included writing, poetry, knitting, cribbage and scrabble, but her greatest passion was her family whom she loved fiercely. A former member with the Calgary Legion and recently with the Valley Pearls lady's group and Ex-RCAF Air Force Women's Group, Kingston and Greenwood area. She is survived by brother Bob Doyle (Donna), son Reg Smith (Kim), grandchildren Krystal (Smith) Roche, Jason Smith, Victoria Chafe and great granddaughter Faith Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends but was especially close to Joan Stilwell and Jim Carson. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Patricia Carson, Barbara Chipman; brothers Stephen Doyle and David Doyle. Special thanks to the staff of Grace Haven residential care facility for their professional, care and compassion the past year and to the Soldiers' Memorial Hospital staff in the emergency dept, acute care and transitional care units who provided crucial medical care and compassion the past two months.
