Obituary

George, Dr Owen David- It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dr Owen David George, loving husband and father, on Friday, October 25, 2024, at home in Somerset. David was born in the small village of Upper Corris, North Wales in 1932. Son of David John and Jane Helena (Lewis) George, he received his early tuition in the local grammar school and later his Medical Degree at Edinburgh University Medical School in 1955. Following his internship, he served two years in the RAMC ending up as Command Ophthalmologist Western Command. He married his loving wife Deirdre in 1960, and they had a wonderful and loving life together for 62 years. He continued his eye training in England until 1968 when they both decided to immigrate to Canada. They settled in Yarmouth, NS where he set up his Practice and served the area faithfully until retirement in 2000. During this time, he served two terms as President of the Medical Staff at Yarmouth Regional Hospital and a term as Chief of Staff. He was involved in the community where he was a member of Beacon United Church Choir for 30 years. He also served a term as President of the Boys & Girls Club and as a Board Member of the Library. Following his retirement he devoted his time to golfing, gardening and reading. He and his wife moved to Melvern Square in 2003 to be closer to his daughter and were members of Holy Trinity Church in Middleton. Following his wife's death in 2022, he moved in with his daughter in Somerset, Kings Co where he lived out his life playing golf with his friends and spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughter Alexandra (John) Beaton, his sons Jonathan (Barbara) and Nicholas (Natalia), grandchildren Nicole, Zach, Ryan, Owain, and Sean; and great grandchildren Tatum and Adeline. Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Middleton, Rev. Sue Channen officiating. Interment in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery.
