Obituary

SLAUENWHITE, Paul MacLean - After years of winning his fight against cancer Paul finally succumbed, peacefully and surrounded by family in his home on February 17, 2011. He was a son of the late Cecil James and Florence Rose (Hartlen) Slauenwhite. Born on August 15, 1937 in Middleton, Nova Scotia. Paul was keenly interested in cars from a young age and he pursued his passion as an automotive mechanic and body repair technician. He began his career in the family business, C.J.Slauenwhite Ltd, and later worked at Bruce Chev Olds in Middleton before becoming self-employed. He served the village of Lawrencetown in several capacities-as a volunteer fireman, president of the rink committee, trustee of United Baptist Church and as a village commissioner. He loved to travel. Many fond family memories were made during countless camping trips around North America and later to visit family in Europe. Sunday afternoons were often spent exploring the back roads of Nova Scotia, all the better, if a salvage yard was enroute. He was very proud to be a friend of Bob and Bill's and from the association he gained much strength and wisdom which, in turn, he passed on to others. He is survived by wife Pauline (Barteaux). Sons, Stephen (Robin) Lawrencetown, Mark (Kattia) Lima, Peru, and daughter Dawn (Ted) Giles, Winnipeg. Grandchildren, Lindsay (Jason) Tupper, Margaretsville, Jamiel Slauenwhite, Round Hill, Austin, Harrison and Nicholas Giles, Winnipeg. Brother, Alan (Eileen) Lawrencetown and sister, Diana (Don) Hirtle, Waverly. Sister-in-law Margaret, Victoria BC and brother-in-law Robert Barteaux, Port Alberni BC, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, John and Eric and sister-in-law, Marjorie Slauenwhite. He felt very fortunate to be born at this time in history and to benefit from our great health care system. He had much gratitude for the wonderful support and care he received from all the doctors, nurses and support staff at Cancer Care Nova Scotia, also from the VON and the Palliative Care Unit who made countless visits to his home. By Pauls request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Monday, February 21, 2011 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Pastor Patty Beals officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be held at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made through the Middleton Funeral Home to the Victorian Order of Nurses or Mid-Valley Palliative Care.
