Paul Leslie
Ward
August 5, 1934 – November 5, 2025
WARD, Paul Leslie ~ Age 91, of Berwick, Kings Co., N.S., passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on August 5, 1934, in Weston, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Leslie A. and Thelma I. (Adams) Ward.
Work at a variety of jobs over the years took him across the country from Nova Scotia (Minas Basin Pulp and Power, OH Armstrong Ltd) to Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick. His 18 years working in administration at the Grand View Manor were, by far, his favourite. He enjoyed spending time visiting with the residents to learn their stories and tell some of his own. He and Jean, his first wife, owned and operated the Kozy Korner Flower Shop in Berwick, for many years. In his retirement years Paul partnered with his brother Laurie to install medical emergency equipment, competently assisted by Ruth, his second wife.
He was a highly competitive athlete and was inducted into the Berwick Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. He was respected as a track runner, hockey and baseball player. In 1951 Paul led his ball team, the Middleton Cardinals, in RBI's and homeruns. Winning the Maritime Title with that team was his proudest athletic accomplishment. He was "Annapolis Valley Famous" as the first player to hit a home run out of the ballpark in Middleton.
Paul was a community builder. He was a lifetime member of Berwick & District Lions Club where he served in various capacities, including president, serving dinners, selling tickets, and participating in Gala Days ("red hot hot dogs!"). The Apple Capital Museum was of great interest to him and he worked hard to contribute to its development, particularly through fundraising. Many people will remember Paul for his stories, jokes and his enjoyment in playing his records. Faith became more important to him in later years and he found comfort in going to church, reading devotionals and watching Time to Sing on Friday night.
Surviving are daughters, Wendy (Gordon) Ward, Arnprior, Ontario; Sandra Wheeler, Dartmouth; Denise Ward (Corky Hirtle), Garland; son, Gregory "Greg" (Midori) Ward, Lawrencetown Beach; grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Leah, Jesse, Rochelle, Reuben, Emily, Peter, Carly, Danielle, and Jesse; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (the late Jon) Margeson, Berwick; brother, Laurie (Therry) Ward, Coldbrook; cousins, Bonita Ward and Jocelyn Ward Askew, Nova Scotia, Kim Michele (Ward) Reynolds and Bonnie Ward Thomson, Ontario; several nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Donna (Marvin) Weihers and Tim (Mary Ann) Rainforth; step grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, the former I. Jean Brown; second wife, the former Ruth M. Nichols-Rainforth; sister, Sylvia (Les) Trask.
There will no visitation at the funeral home.
