GATES, Pauline Beatrice – age 83 formerly of Forest Glade NS, passed away peacefully in Grand View Manor in Berwick, with family at her side, on December 17, 2015. Born on April 7, 1932 in Ross Corner, Kings Co. NS, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Marjorie Pineo. Pauline was first and foremost a Christian woman who practiced her faith on a daily basis and in every aspect of her life. She was a faithful member of the Margaretsville Baptist Church serving as Church organist for many years, until failing health took her from the community. She was a Lifetime member of the Women's Missionary Society. By profession, Pauline was a Registered Nurse. She graduated from Payzant Memorial Hospital in Windsor with her RN's and later with her BN from Dalhousie University in Halifax. She worked in BC and various hospitals in NS but her work for the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) held a special place in her heart. By choice, Pauline was a farmer's wife who rose to the various challenges of living the farm life as demonstrated by her love of animals and work with the local Women's Institute group. Gardening was a special interest of Pauline's and she took great pride in the beautiful flower gardens she maintained at her home. Pauline had the distinction of being crowned Queen Annapolisa 26 th and she enjoyed celebrating her Annapolis Valley heritage for many years. Pauline is survived by son Arthur (Colleen) Gates, Pine Grove, NS; daughter Marilyn (Kevin) Lightfoot, Wilmot, NS. Her granddaughters Sindy Croft, Greenfield, NS; Krista Gates, Pine Grove, NS; Holly Lightfoot, Sackville, NB; Mikaela Lightfoot, Pinehouse Lake, SK and great granddaughter Melissa Croft, Greenfield, NS will continue to cherish many fond memories of time spent with 'Nanny'. Also left to grieve is brother Ken (Barb) Pineo, Berwick, NS and sisters Geraldine (Martin) Bolland, New Minas, NS and MaryLou (Richard) Misner, New Minas NS as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Gates. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 20 th from 6:00-8:00pm in the Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St. (902)825-3448 where the funeral service will be held on Monday, December 21 st at 2:00pm with Rev. Sarah Scott officiating. Reception to follow the service. Interment will be in the Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square. Donations may be made to the Margaretsville Baptist Church, Victorian Order of Nurses (Annapolis Valley Branch) or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend their thanks to the entire staff of Grand View Manor for their professionalism, loving care and compassion shown to Pauline over the years.
