Obituary

CAREY, Philip Ross  ~ age 72 of East Margaretsville, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, January 11, 2021. Born in Middleton, he was a son of Ola (Sanford) and the late Donald Carey. Philip enjoyed every minute with his grandchildren and was honoured to affectionately be called "Poppy". He enjoyed camping with friends and family and playing darts. Philip drove transport trucks and enjoyed driving a school bus. He was a member of the Margaretsville Volunteer Fire Department and Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 1, Middleton. Philip loved dogs, especially his beloved "Rosie Grace". Philip, who was lovingly nicknamed "Phil The Grouch" will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his best friend, Brenda Whitmore; her children and Philip's "loved extended family", daughter, Shannon (David) Frittenburg, Timberlea; grandchildren, Cameron and Hadley; son, Murray Neiley (Shawna Candlish), Ryley, AB; grandchildren, Reanna and Tyler (Sophie); brother, Dwayne (Judy) Carey, Sand Beach, NS; niece, Karlene (Matthew) Bond, Aldershot and nephew James (Kelley) Carey, Scots Bay. In keeping with Philip's wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021 in the Bay View Cemetery, East Margaretsville with Rev. Deann Carter officiating. Donations in memory may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the first responders for their compassionate care and to Harold, Bill and Peter.
