Obituary

EASSON, Philip Harry Eugene "Phil" - age 80, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Morristown on December 5, 1932, he was a son of the late Thomas W. and M. Muriel (Parker) Easson. Philip along with his late father, Thomas and brother, Bill co-founded Eassons Transport Ltd., Berwick, and had been involved with the operation of the business for many years. He was a long-time member of the Berwick Baptist Church, where he served for several terms on the Deacons Board, sang in the choir and served on Finance, Trustees and Kingswood Camp Committees. Philip was a member of the Berwick & District Curling Club and was always actively involved in his community volunteering with the Apple Capital Museum and the Berwick Food Bank. He had been inducted into the Berwick Sports Hall of Fame as a Builder. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, E. Ferne (Ryerson) Easson, Berwick; children, Bryan (Margaret Anne) Easson, Kingston; Christopher (Beth) Easson, Aylesford East; Kimberley (Colin) Palmer, Saskatoon, Sask.; Karen (George) Gray, Hamilton, Ont.; grandchildren, Adam (Leanne), Amanda, Bailey, Cain, Lauren, Emily, Carter, Samantha and Bella; great-grandson, Ayden; sister, Gwen (the late Ray) Pollett, Ottawa, Ont.; sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Muff" Easson, Bridgetown; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sons, Kevin and Richard Easson in infancy; brother, William "Bill" (Janet) Easson. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 26, in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating, with a reception to follow. Burial in the Morristown Cemetery, at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Berwick Baptist Church, Valley Regional Hospital Foundation or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
