Obituary

Philip Orlay Jacques, 86, died at Grand View Manor, October 11th, 2024, with his loving family by his side.  He was the second son to parents John W. and Madeline Violet (Bligh) Jacques. Phil was born September 16th, 1938, at Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, N.S.  Phil was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Sgt. Jack W. Jacques, Saskatoon, Sask.; and an infant grandson, James Bradley.

Phil loved adventure, sports, fishing, hunting and outdoors.  He and his brother excelled in hockey, baseball and swimming.  They developed lifelong friends living in Hantsport, N.S. and attended High School.  When the family moved to Nelson, B.C., Phil achieved a Private Pilot's License in his teens.

On return to Nova Scotia, Phil lived with Grandmother Jacques on the old homestead.  He worked for Defence Construction, Greenwood, N.S. and completed high school at West Kings.  When he applied and was accepted as able-bodied seaman for HMCS Bounty, it was one of his greatest joys.  The promotional Bounty tour lasted almost a year.  They sailed from Boston to France, visited England and the Canary Islands. The Bounty returned to Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York in time for the premier showing of "Mutiny on the Bounty".  Sailing and the Bounty held a special place in Phil's heart.

Once back from the Bounty tour, Phil's professional career began with Crescent Finance.  His career lasted thirty years, a combination of management, human resources and supervision.  The company changed to AVCO Financial Services, Citibank and now Fairstone. Phil was dedicated, and hard-working with a keen sense of financial management.  The same year Phil began with Crescent, he married Joyce (nee Aalders), and they began their life in Dartmouth, N.S.  His family includes daughter, Faye Jacques (Dean) and two grandchildren, Nathan and Madeline.  Phil never tired of sharing his love of flying.  He shared his passion with his wife, daughter, grandchildren and many friends.  He was a loving, supportive, family man and a loyal friend.

On retirement, Phil and Joyce enjoyed a month-long stay at Myrtle Beach, S.C.  Phil played golf.  He and Joyce spent time with friends, beach-walked, played Sequence attended concerts.  His annual fishing trips were a welcome event.  Phil was a former member of the Waterville Flying Club and the North Mountain Rod and Gun Club.

Philip Orlay Jacques is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce; their only daughter, Faye (Dean); grandchildren, Nathan, and Madeline; sisters in law, Faye Scrim, Quebec and Lenore Jacques, Sask.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thanks to special friends, Mike & Merilee Bacon, Tom and Elizabeth Spinney, Esther McKnight and others who provided support and compassion. We are grateful for the care and dedication provided by the Grand View Manor team.
