BATES, Priscilla "Joan"
– age 86 of Middleton, formerly of Freeport, NS passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Freeport, Joan was a daughter of the late Romaine and Clara (Outhouse) Perry. Joan received her early education in Freeport and was a graduate of Horton Academy. She was a graduate nurse from the Yarmouth Class of 1952. After passing the RN exams she was employed at Digby and Shelburne Hospitals for a number of years. Joan and her husband Gilbert resided in Freeport and owned the Long and Brier Ambulance. On retirement they did a lot of travelling by motorhome and finally settled in Middleton. Joan is survived by daughters Melana Thibault of Shelburne and Alison (Bill) Kenney of Grand Prairie, AB; stepsons Gary (Tracy) Bates and Donald Bates and stepdaughter Donna (Lawrence) Jefferson; sisters Sandra Cooke of Toronto and Madelyn Perry of Wolfville; grandchildren Erin, Taylor, Morgan, Rebecca, Patty, Anne Marie, Daisy, Crystal, Lawrence, Matthew, Danielle and Nicole. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Andrew. In keeping with Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
