Raymond Halley "Ray" Spencer

At the age of 81, Ray Spencer of Middleton, Annapolis Co., N.S., passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Middleton.

Ray lived most of his life in the Annapolis Valley, aside from a few years living in Ontario, where he met and married his loving-wife of almost 59 years, Lorraine (Edwards). They had two children - son, John (Ryoko), and daughter, Trina (Jim Thompson), and one grandson, his pride and joy, Ayrton Thompson. His family was his world, and often stated, “If I had to do it all over again, I’d marry the same woman and have the same kids.”

A self-taught, talented musician, Ray played mainly lead guitar, and filled in for rhythm and bass, in various bands throughout Nova Scotia and Ontario.

An avid sports fan, Ray started playing hockey on outdoor ice wearing “Sears catalogues as shin pads” and transitioned to proper equipment in a rink when he got older. He also loved being on the golf course and finally convinced his wife to join him in their retirement years.

He was an outgoing man who spoke to strangers as if they were old friends and loved making others laugh. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him, especially his family and, long-time best friends, Elroy and Linda Wood.

A heartfelt thank you to the medical staff of the Surgical Floor in Valley Regional Hospital, and the Medical Floor in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com.
