Obituary

COLEMAN, Richard "Dick" Blandford - Age 88 was received into the arms of his Saviour on October 6, 2017 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS after spending the last week surrounded by his loving family. Born December 30, 1928 in Steam Mill, NS, he was the son of the late George and Laura (Veinot) Coleman. On June 14, 1952, Dick married his Love and lifelong dance partner, Erma May (Spicer). In 1984, after 30+ years of service in the RCAF, Dick and Erma settled in Meadowvale. This past June they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and reflected on how wonderful God has been to them over the years. Dad was always so thankful for and proud of his family. We often heard him say, "There is nothing more important than family." His "bear hugs" will be sorely missed by all who received them. Dad was affectionately called "Peppermint Papa" by his great-grandchildren and was always eager to get down on hands and knees to play. Dad loved music and was taking piano lessons and sang in his church choir up until his passing. Dad was a great athlete. He played hockey into his 50s, is in the Middleton Sports Hall of Fame for his curling successes, and golfed the week before his passing. Papa was his grandchildren's biggest fan, no matter the sport. He travelled near and far to cheer them on and keep the refs in line! Dad was always quick to welcome you into his home and into his heart. He had a way of connecting and making each person feel special and valued. He liked to tease, but always in love. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Erma May (Spicer); his three daughters, Debbie Smith of Bedford, Karen Ramsay (fka Bauer) and husband, Clare of Meadowvale, and Kim Power and husband, Bob of Dartmouth; nine grandchildren, Matt (Katie) and Richard (Lindsay) Smith, Erin and Stephanie Power, Krista (Joel) Cox (née Bauer), Ryan (Jill) Bauer, Bruce (Sara) Ramsay, Amanda (Tom) Bettle (née Ramsay), and Eileen (Tim) Prosser; nine great-grandchildren, Abby and Logan Smith; Jonas, Simon, Noam, Eben, and Glory-May Cox; Maryn and Cameron Bettle; two brothers, Reg and Amos, sisters-in-law, Chris Coleman, Muriel Shaw and Ruth Jordan. He was predeceased by his brothers, Blake and George, sister, Clarice Slattery, son-in-law, Dennis Smith, and grandchildren, Ashley Power and Danny Bauer. He will be missed by so many in his community including his KUBC church family, the Greenwood library staff, Masonic and Eastern Star friends, his piano teacher and countless others. The family would like to give special thanks to Dana Morse N.P., Dr. Rebecca Clarke and the Med "B" staff at Valley Regional Hospital. Cremation has taken place.
