Obituary

TINGLEY, Richard "Dick" Borden – 92 of Wilmot, Annapolis County, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2016 in the Veterans wing of the Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Middleton.  He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Madelyn "Rae" (Hatt).  Born in Martin's River, South Shore, NS, he was the eldest son of the late Borden and Winifred (Keddy) Tingley.  He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Judy (Bob) Miller, Calgary; Janet, Calgary; Rick (Nancy), Halifax; Marshall (Carla), Kingston; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.  Also, he is survived by his sister Ruth Poirier and brother Darrell (Susan) and many nephews and nieces.  He was predeceased by his brothers "Lou" and Terry and his sister Betty-Lou Faulkner.  Dad joined the RCAF in 1943 and served as a WAG on Liberators in 357 Squadron in Southeast Asia during WWII.  He left the military after the war but rejoined the RCAF in 1948 serving across Canada and in France retiring in 1974 while maintaining life-long friendships and contact with friends gained during both periods of service.  He was a member of the Burma Bombers Association, the Kingston and Middleton Legions and a former Deacon and member of the Middleton Baptist Church.  An avid gardener during his day, he will be fondly remembered for his devotion to and his unconditional love for his family, his positive outlook and sense of humour, and his generous nature. By request, there will be no visitation. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute conducted by Kingston Branch No. 98 followed by a funeral service with Rev. Danny Smith officiating will be held 11:00 AM Monday, August 1, 2016 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825- 3448. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville. A special thank you to the staff at the Veterans wing in the Soldiers' Memorial Hospital for taking such great care of our Dad.  Family flowers only please.  Donations in memory may be made to the Molly Appeal or a charity of your choice.
