DODWELL, Richard "Rick" George - Middleton, NS. I t is with g r eat s adness that we announce the pa ss ing of R ic h ard "Rick" George Dodwell, age 59 of Middleton on July 3 0 , 2017. Born in Middleton, he was a s on of the late Do r ot h y Eileen (George) and J a m es Dodwell. Richard is s u r vived by his s pou s e, J ohanne P e rr eault; daughters, T a r a P e rr eault ( T i m B ar r ) , Sara C arl s on ( C hance B ower ) , Angela C arl s on of Albert a and Kelly Deveau of Hali f ax; s o n s, R . J . C arl s on and J oey C arl s on ( f r iend, Fiona Hen s ley); b r others, Gary of V ietn a m , David of British Columbia and R obert of New M ina s . Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Brian. R ick w a s a good f at h er and his child r en m at t ered to h i m . He will be m i s s ed on eve r y hap p y and s ad occa s io n we go th r ough as a f a m i l y . He w a s p r oud of all his chil d r en. He alwa y s got up ear l y and would cook C h r i s t m a s dinn e r and d inners f or all the s pecial occa s io n s . It made Johanne happy t hat he enj o y ed doing that and his g r a v y and potato s a l ad was the be s t; it will be hard to m a t ch. Richard loved c a m ping at a nice lake and just recently enjoyed a nice canoe t r ip with Johanne. He was a good m e c hanic and could also do s o m e carpent r y . He s tarted a bu s in e s s of building ba b y b a r ns which was very successful; b u t later bec a m e Nann y 's caregive r which became a 24/7 occupa t ion for him. Richard w a s ea s y going and strangers felt comfortable starting conversations with him. He wo r ked in the oil indu s t r ies in Alberta f or 20 y e a r s before coming back to Nova Scotia to r a i s e his chil d r en. His hob b y was de s igning web s it e s and he learned a l o t in the p r oces s . He liked keeping busy and could alwa y s f ind s o m ething to do. At t i m e s Richard could s ee r ight t h r ough the kid s and what th e y were up to; o f ten w i th g r eat accura c y . I t was hard to pull the wool over his eyes and mo r e o f ten than not, he was r ight! He wanted his children to und e r s tand that there are alwa y s con s eq u ences to their action s . He loved them and was so proud of all of them. He wanted his kids to bec o m e the be s t th e y could be . His family shared many p r ecious m o m en t s with Richard, which w i ll help s u s tain them in their sorrow. In keeping with Richard's wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 4 PM , Friday, August 4th in Holy C r o s s C e m e t e r y , Kentville, with Father John MacPherson officiating. A r ecep t ion for family and friends will f ollow in the upstairs room at the R oot R e s taurant, 7182 Hwy 1, Coldbrook (please use the s i d e do o r and not the out s ide s tai r c a s e .) Donations in m e m o r y m ay be m ade to the Heart and S t r oke Foundation of Nova Scotia o r a charity of your choice.
