Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Blair Smith, age 60, of Enfield, announce his sudden passing Monday May 5, 2025 at the QEII Hospital.  Born March 18, 1965 in Halifax, Richard spent his early years in Maitland.  From there he pursued a career with Air Canada Jazz, but soon found his true passion as a truck driver.  Working as a broker, Richard took great pride in being an owner/operator, first hauling fuel, then wood chips and finally dump trailer loads of bulk materials. Richard's trucks were special and unique to him.  Everyone knew it was Richard when they saw the purple Kenworth.

When not working, Richard's passion for anything with a motor extended beyond trucks to old cars.  But his real love was for his wife, Wendy, and their times together.  At home, he was happiest working outside around the yard, tinkering with his vehicles and sharing the love of their furry feline companions.  For vacation they shared their time travelling to car shows, camping with friends, going for drives in their old cars and in 2018, Richard and Wendy took the trip of a lifetime to the UK to visit with family.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Wendy (Cameron); sister-in-law, Colleen (Jim) McGill, Brooklyn; aunt, Linda Morash, Truro and several cousins.  Richard was predeceased by his uncle, Robert (Bobby) Smith.   Richard fought a courageous 10 month battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer (glioblastoma).

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the Enfield Volunteer Fire Department members and the EHS teams that attended to Richard at home and on route to the QEII Hospital, for their quick response and compassion.  Sincere thanks to the medical staff at the QEII Emergency Department for their outstanding compassion, care and empathy during his short stay.

In keeping with Richard's wishes, there will be no memorial service.  Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
