Obituary

VEINOTT, Richard "Dick" Arnold – age 79 of Truro, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2017 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro after a lengthy illness. Born in Kingston, NS, he was the only son of Opal Marie (Veinott) Willis. For the most part he was raised by his maternal grandmother the late Ethel Veinott. Richard grew up around many aunts, uncles and cousins. When he was a young man, Richard joined the Army where he became an Army cook. A little into these years, he married and had three children; Freda, Brian and Todd. He was employed with CFB Greenwood and while there he began to explore careers. By the end of these years, he had decided to become a teacher, but not before he was certified as Chef de Cuisine of Canada. In September of 1972, Dick's teaching career was on and for the next three decades he enjoyed working with the Vocational Training Program in Truro, NS. Richard loved his job teaching the Apprenticeship Program to young Atlantic Canadians; one of the best rated courses of its time. He also did a lot of judging at food fairs and exhibitions in Truro over those years. Dad retired in 1999 and always loved golf and curling. He enjoyed travelling around the Atlantic Provinces with his camper, especially if he could do a little fishing. Richard golfed every other day in summer and in the winter curling was his passion. He loved the "rock, broom and ice" and was always off to a tournament somewhere. He remained very active until his illness prevented him from doing so. Richard is survived by his daughter Freda Maxine Lambert of Cochrane, AB; sons Brian Christopher of Torbrook Mines and Todd Stephen of Cochrane, AB; granddaughters Ashlyn and Amberlyn and two great- grandchildren Avery and Jaxkson. A memorial service and reception will take place at 2:00 PM Friday, February 3, 2017 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448 with Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Interment will be in North Kingston Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Feed Nova Scotia. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
We'll miss ya Dad…"hurry hard" and watch out for those sand bunkers. God speed!
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me .     Psalm 23:5
