CHUTE, Robert Earl "Bob" ~ Age 94, of Berwick, Kings Co., it is with saddened hearts that we announce his passing on Monday, July 12, 2021, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with Myrna by his side. Born on April 29, 1927, in Waterville, Kings Co., he was a son of C. Earl and Ida M. (Pineo) Chute. Bob attended Agriculture College in Truro, and went on to work at Ralston Purina of Canada, retiring as a Supervisor Project Manager after 30 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, golf, curling, square dancing and winters in Florida. As a silver smith he also spent many years crafting silver jewellery. He was an avid beach comber, always finding the agate stones on the shores of the Bay of Fundy that he cut, shaped and polished, and used in his silver pieces, winning many awards in the Metal Arts Guild. Bob was known for being very active in his community. He was a charter and life member of the Berwick and District Lions Club, becoming a Key Member in 1977. In 2015 he was awarded the highest honour in Lions International, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was involved with Gala Days for 50 years including organizing the building committee for six Apple Blossom parade floats. He was a member of the Berwick artisans gallery and the Metal Arts Guild of Nova Scotia in Halifax. Keenly interested in the apple industry, Bob became the driving force behind the concept and reality of the Berwick Lions sponsoring the formation of the Apple Capital Museum in 1998 of which he continued to be active as long as he was able. Bob was also a trustee for the Berwick Cemetery and was a member of the Berwick United Church. He loved his Morgan horses, Airedale dogs and 40 years of Wednesday night card games with friends. He will be missed by his wife of 70 years, Myrna (Bishop); daughters, Cathryn Chute, Wolfville; Lynn (Fred) Wade, Grand Pré; grandchildren, Jamie, George (Mallory) and Tessa (Carl) Hayes; and a great grandchild who is expected this fall; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Margaret (Murray) Durno; Shirley Chute; brother, Allison (Verna) Chute. A private interment for both Bob and Myrna took place at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2025, in the Berwick Cemetery, with Rev. Mary Jo Harrison officiating.
