Robert "Firth"
Hepburn
December 17, 1928 – July 27, 2025
HEPBURN, Robert "Firth" ~ Age 96, of Aylesford, Kings Co., N.S., passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born on December 17, 1928, in London, Ontario, he was a son of the late Robert B. and Gertrude M. (Pineo) Hepburn.
Firth is survived by his twin sister, Fearn (the late Grant) Dempsey, Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton; and numerous family members, including nieces, Linda (the late Ronald) Hiltz, Aylesford; Elizabeth (Allan) Saulnier, Auburn; Heidi Crowell, Kentville; Patti d'Entremont and Cindy d'Eon, both of Yarmouth (who had fond memories of every Christmas of their childhood, enjoying the company of uncle Firth and aunt Betty).
Firth and Betty's home was a warm, welcoming place, dressed for every occasion. Children in the area loved to visit at Halloween, seeing the decorations and getting their special bag of goodies prepared by Firth and Betty.
Firth was a community man with a long-time involvement in the Aylesford & District Volunteer Fire Department, Boy Scouts as a Leader and was a very active member of Aylesford United Church. He had received awards from each group but had also received a special award from the province honouring his volunteerism. In 2012, Firth received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, (which celebrates outstanding contributions made by Canadians and Nova Scotians) When presenting the medals, the then Premier Dexter said, "Todays recipients are making Nova Scotia a better place to live and are great examples of what can be achieved when you get involved in your community".
Firth took great pride in remembering his days as the Parts Manager for Milnes's Garage. His customers counted on him and appreciated how he would go out of his way to provide the parts they needed to keep their stock complete, (These were customers in all his sales district, on the main roads and back roads, where he did service calls in every kind of weather, They could always depend on Firth.)
From his earliest days, Firth was active. As a teenager, he secured a loan from the bank so he could purchase a bike that allowed him to travel everywhere and even make some money taking pictures. He sold his pictures to the Halifax Herald and to the R.C.M.P. when they needed pictures of accident scenes. Firth eventually had fun on his Ski -Doo and when he discovered curling, he had many years enjoying that sport.
Firth faithfully maintained his friendships throughout the years and he appreciated friends who took the time to visit…a chance to talk about 'old times' and share a cup of tea or coffee.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Delaney; brothers, Thomas "Tommy" and John Hepburn; sisters, Margaret Creemer and Jean Gollan, as well as children of John, his nephew, Robbie Hepburn and niece, Deborah MacMillan, who grew up next to their uncle Firth.
There will be no visitation. All are welcome to attend a service in celebration of Firth's life at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, in Aylesford United Church, 2414 Highway 1, Aylesford. Rev. Webster Vhembo officiating, with interment in Aylesford Union Cemetery. A reception will take place in the church hall.
