Obituary

MacKenzie, Robert Spencer "Bob", Captain (Ret) RCAF/CF, CD -, of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville at the age of 92.

Born June 12, 1932, in Port Morien, Cape Breton, NS, he was the eldest son of the late John Aulay and Florence Vera (Spencer) MacKenzie.

Bob was educated at Gowrie School, Port Morien, and Morrison High School, Glace Bay.

Robert joined the RCAF January 3, 1951, as a Radio Officer/Navigator serving on 8 Squadrons at many bases, accumulating 13000 hours flying, retiring in 1976 in Greenwood, NS. Bob's saying was: "I did it my way!"

Bob is survived by his brother Donald (Jacklynn) of Port Morien, NS; and sister Lois Turner of Port Morien, NS; grandchildren Selena (Ryan) and Aaron (Alyssa) of Quesnel, BC; great grandchildren Raleigh, Kinsley; and Rebel; stepson Larry Barnett (Lorinda); and their son Adam of Yarmouth, NS.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Thelma; second wife, Sonya; brothers Clyde and Angus; sisters Jean and Ethel, and son Robert Aulay MacKenzie.

A special thank you to Lenore MacKenzie (mother of Selena and Aaron), Mary Gibson, and Donna Constantine.

Interment will be held in Tremont Cemetery at 11:30 am on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. A reception will follow in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, 1-855-825-3448. All are welcome.
