Obituary

With love in our hearts, we announce the death of Robert "Bob" Merriam who took his last flight on August 26, 2023, at the age of 82. Born on April 8, 1941, in Guelph, Ontario, he was the son of the late Leslie and Nell (Cathrae) Merriam. Bob joined the RCAF in 1959 training as a radio navigator and later cross trained to pilot which allowed him a career of flying which he loved. He achieved a total of 12,500 flying hours on the Argus, Aurora and Hercules aircraft. Bob retired after 35 years of service, which gave him more time to enjoy his hobbies of fly fishing, curling and golf, card games and challenging puzzles.

Dad had relationships that he cherished and nourished with unconditional love. First and foremost, with his wife, Gwen, "the love of his life", his valued children, grandchildren, all family and friends.  He often said the words but he didn't need to. Those around him felt it. We were all blessed to have him in our lives, and he will always be in our hearts.

He is survived by his wife the former Gwendolyn Schofield; their children Stefani (Glenn) Hurley, Leslie Merriam and Kymberly (Marcel) Muller; grandchildren Braeden (Amy) Hurley, Hunter Zinck and Remington Zinck; great grandchildren Brody and Claire Hurley; sisters Anita Barrington and Dianne (Bob) Faloon. Bob was predeceased by a sister Delores Pennock. By request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Canada.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., Middleton NS (toll free 1 -855-825-3448). An online guestbook may be signed by visiting www.middletonfuneralhome.com
