Obituary

MEINDL, Rolf, age 87, of Middleton, NS, passed away peacefully Thursday December 28th, at Soldier's Memorial Hospital. Born in Germany, Rolf and his wife Elfriede immigrated to Canada in 1952. They settled in Toronto where he worked as a millwright until he enrolled at Waterloo Lutheran University at the age of 35 with the intention of becoming a Lutheran minister. He graduated from seminary in 1966 and accepted a call to work in a team ministry originally serving 15 Lutheran congregations in Lunenburg County. His home parish was Trinity Lutheran Church in New Germany. Other congregations in his ministry included North River, Newburne, Walden, Upper Northfield, West Northfield, Upper Lahave and Branch Lahave. He retired to his own property on the shore of the Bay of Fundy in Outram where he and Elfriede had built their dream house. In his retirement, he continued to guest preach and officiate at ceremonies in his former parishes as well as assisting his wife with her figurine business. He was loved and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Elfriede Meindl (Nee Voegele), and his children Susan Meindl (Andrew Waxman), Patricia Meindl, Carol Meindl (John Gyakum)and Rolf (Maria) Meindl Jr., and by his grandchildren, Emily and Lauren Waxman, Tim and James Gyakum, and Douby Meindl.
