Obituary

McMACKIN, Ronald Murray "Ron" – age 88, of Kingston, Kings Co., N.S., passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at home. Born on January 13, 1930 in Saint John, N.B., he was a son of the late William and Marion (Winslow) McMackin. Ron joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1950. He met Theresa Godin in Lachine, Quebec and they married in 1953. Ron retired after 35 years in the service and went on to volunteer with Friendly Neighbours, the Lions Club and the Kingston Arena. He was well known in the community and loved going to bingo and being looked after by all the ladies who helped him. A special thank you to Dawn at China Village Restaurant, who always had his coffee ready. Surviving are his daughters, Linda (Major) Wentzell, Kingston; Carol (Tony) Wishart, Comox, B.C.; Michele (Blaine) Houtekamer, Lower Sackville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Lawrence) Gorlick, Betty Clements, and Patricia (Charles) Gabriel. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, the former Theresa E. Godin; daughter Diane Beaton; brothers  Doug, Malcolm, Gordon and John; sisters, Catherine, Mary and Carol. By request cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place 2:00 – 4:00 pm Thursday, January 25th in the Kingston Lions Hall. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Kingston at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. (902) 825-3448.
