Obituary

GRANDY, Ronald Albert "Ron" ~ Age 79, of Wilmot, Annapolis Co., N.S., passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on April 25, 1945, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Thelma (Appleby) and Murray Grandy.

Ron served for 15 years in Royal Canadian Air Force, retiring with the rank of Corporal. His experience travelling the world while in the air force, and particularly his time in Baden-Baden, Germany in the 1970s were some of his favorite memories. He moved out west with the birth of his daughter Christine to Red Deer, Alberta where his mother and brother Laurie would also eventually relocate. Ron was deeply interested in politics and loved to play complex online games right into his late 70s. He never let Christine win board games but was an otherwise great Dad.

He first battled bone cancer in 2018 and adjusted remarkably well to life with one leg. The years after that he called 'all gravy' and he was delighted by the birth of his granddaughter Zoe in 2021, showing visitors to his place many videos of her. Above all he loved his retirement in the valley, visits from Christine, Adam and Zoe from the UK and local visits from his friends Doug (deceased), Karen and Bob, and his weekly card game. His was a good and full life, with little unsaid to family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Surviving are his daughter, Christine Grandy (Adam Houlbrook), Lincoln, U.K.; granddaughter, Zoe Grandy; sister, Judy Buchanan, Halifax; brother, Laurie Grandy, East Pennant; niece, Lauren Grandy, Dartmouth. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Robert Grandy.

There will be a private family and friends gathering. Donations in his memory may be made to Donate to VON. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
