Ronald Winslow
Sampson
August 13, 1949 – February 7, 2026
SAMPSON, Ronald Winslow ~ Age 76, of South Tremont, Kings Co., N.S., passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville.
Ron was born on August 13, 1949, in Magog, Quebec. He was predeceased by his parents, Ronald McNeil Sampson and Doris Ida Guild (Sampson/Heath), both born in North Hatley, Quebec; and his stepfather, Leslie Heath. He grew up alongside his sisters, Sandra McDannold and Carolyn Kezar.
On August 28, 1968, in Nova Scotia, Ron married the love of his life, Diane. They shared 49 devoted years of marriage before Diane's passing on September 18, 2017. Together, they raised their children, Gail (Darren) and Stephen (Dawn), building a life filled with laughter, music, and deep family bonds.
As a young man, Ron joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving as an airframe technician before remustering as a machinist. After 22 years of service, he retired from the military and went on to work for Michelin for many years alongside his good friend Louie Jacquard.
Ron was known for his quick wit, sharp sense of humour, and remarkable ability to fix—or MacGyver—just about anything. With the help of his friend and neighbour, Stewart Burns, he completed the home that Ron and Diane would proudly call their own.
He loved the outdoors and could often be found on his ATV, hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the fresh air. In retirement, Ron and Diane embraced life fully—hosting legendary gatherings (the Elvis party remains unforgettable), listening to music, dancing (they especially loved to polka), taking long drives by car or four-wheeler, and camping, particularly with Diane's sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Frank Creelman.
Ron and Diane adored their grandchildren, Jack, Elliot, Paxten, and AnnaWen, and treasured their nieces, Kelly (Sean) and Kamy, along with their grand-nieces, Lily and Leia.
Following Diane's passing, and the loss of his brother and sister-in-law, Ron continued to enjoy a weekly game of pool with his cousin and dear friend Wayne Ritchie, as well as occasional hunting and fishing trips with Walter MacCarthy, Joe Kiceniuk, Larry MacCarthy, and Wayne Ritchie.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral service, in keeping with Ron's wishes. Interment will take place in North Kingston Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of donations, Ron would ask that you share a game of pool and a beverage with a friend or loved one. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
