SMITH, Ruby Nora ~ age 94 formerly of North Kingston, NS and Nictaux, NS passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 in the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Ruby was the glue that held her family together and will be dearly missed. Born in Victoria Harbour, NS, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Ida (Freeman) Mapplebeck. She was employed as a retail clerk for 10 years at The Metropolitan Store, Greenwood and later was employed with Andrews Department Store, Middleton, working in the Ladies Wear Department. Ruby was a past member of North Kingston Baptist Church and choir. Later, she attended Kingston United Baptist Church and was in the Middleton Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a Candy Striper and worked in the Carousel Gift Shop. Ruby was an avid flower and vegetable gardener and enjoyed knitting. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Russell) Riles, Melvern Square; sons, Larry Smith, Mount Uniacke; Dale Smith, Victoria Vale, and son-in-law Allen Greene; sisters, Rose Kenneally, Trenton, ON and Gladys Kenneally, Victoria Harbour; grandchildren, Lisa Marie, Paul, Lisa Ann, Jamie, Heidi, Harley, Stacy, Jeremy, Mandy and Bryson; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Bernard; daughter, Louise Greene; sister, Dorothy Corkum; brothers, Ernest, Paul, Ira and Joseph; daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith; and granddaughter, Ashley. In keeping with Ruby's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2019 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. toll free 1-855-825-3448 with Rev. Barbara Bishop officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in North Kingston Cemetery. The family would like to thank Tibbetts Home For Special Care and Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre for their care and compassion over the last 4 ½ years.
