Obituary

Russell Clayton Pierce, Sr. - age 82 of Port Wade, formerly of Victoria Vale, NS, passed away Friday, December 27th, 2024, at VRH, Kentville. Born in Ruislip, England he was a son of the late Archie and Vera (Byles) Pierce, who was a Canadian War Bride. He immigrated to Canada with his mother and older sister, Carolyn, on May 6, 1946, via the Queen Mary landing at Pier 21 in Halifax, NS, Canada.  Russell Sr. is survived by children: Mark (Patsy Davidson), Canning, Paula (David Robicheau), Margaretsville, Russell Jr. "Rusty" (Kimberley), Port Wade, Gail (Don) Godreau, Stillwater Lake, Kelly (Glenn) Mills, Victoria Vale; grandchildren: Richard "Ricky", Erika, Amanda, Mathew, Allen, Alicia and Jason "Jay"; and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Lester (late wife Charlotte), Meadowvale; Ray (Elizabeth), Forest Glade, Keith, Windsor; Michael, Victoria Vale; Noreen (Michael) Fallis, Kingston; Linda, Kingston; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Verna (Zwicker) Pierce, sisters, Joyce in infancy, Carolyn Veinott, brothers Melvyn and Scott.  He was a member of Wilmot Baptist Church, and a former member of the Annapolis Valley Men's Gospel Choir, which he enjoyed for many years. In addition to his love of gospel music, he will be remembered by many for his humor and always having a joke to share.  We would like to thank Dad's Family Dr. Miller Makramalla and the many medical staff, VON, Homecare, paramedics, doctors, specialists and nurses who have been good to our Dad, especially the last couple years. And we offer our deep gratitude to Dr. Melissa Broaders and Medical B of VRH for their exceptional care of and compassion for our Dad in his final days.  And last but certainly, not least, the family would like to thank Kim for her devotion for his daily care this past year. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 PM in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St, (902) 825-3448.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday January 2, 2025 also in Middleton Funeral Home, Rev. Chris Wickens officiating. Interment will be in Nictaux Cemetery.
