Whynott, Russell Arthur - 89 of South Greenwood passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton with his loving family by his side. Born in Weston, Kings County, he was the youngest son of the late Leon and Elsie (Dimmell) Whynot. At the age of 18, Russ enlisted in the Canadian Army and after 20 months of service was discharged due to health reasons. He went on to be employed as a carpenter working for various employers including DND at CFB Greenwood where he retired in July of 1987. Russ was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, especially hunting, fishing, trapping and loved to tell of his adventures. Russ is survived by son Wayne (Alice), South Greenwood; sisters, Alice Jamieson, Spryfield and Alberta (Chris) Beach, Edmonton; brothers, Pearlie, Veterans Wing, Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Marjorie, sisters Marjorie Chales and Audrey Williams and brothers Charles and Ralph. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the United Pentecostal Church, 500 Main St., Middleton with Lic. Robert McDougall officiating. Interment will be in the Tremont Cemetery. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to VON Annapolis Valley Branch or charity of choice.
