Obituary

NEILY, Ruth Edna 86, of Middleton passed away at her home on December 30th. Born in Clarence, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Jabez Stanley and Mary Ida (Witham) Godfrey. Ruth enjoyed a rural lifestyle and participated in many local community organizations. She took an active role in the Spa Springs Women's Institute and was a member of the Victoria Vale Baptist Church and Middleton Branch #1 Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered regularly at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, and for the Macdonald Museum. Ruth will be remembered for her keen participation in community social events throughout the Valley such as card games, craft shows, charitable fund raisers, and church functions. Prior to devoting her life to raising a family in Spa Springs, she was employed with Maritime Tel and Tel. She filled the summers with her passion for gardening and in the winter she enjoyed bowling and doing handcrafts. She was also a past member of the Middleton Curling Club. She valued the lifelong friendships she made with so many and appreciated the good times travelling with them to events throughout the province. Ruth is survived by her; daughter Marcy (Gregg) Gaul, Port George; sons, Peter (Penny), Truro; Tom, Victoria Vale; Will (Angela), South Williamston; grandchildren Emily (Cody) Neily, Matthew Gaul, Thomas Gaul, Katherine Neily, Parker Neily; brother, Stanley, Bridgetown and extended family Jodi Neily-Svederus. She was predeceased by her husband, David John and brother, Shirley Ray Godfrey. Ruth's family wishes to thank friends and family for all their support and comfort. Also, they are especially grateful to the VON nurses and caregivers, Janet Welton RN of Annapolis Valley Palliative Care and Dr. Michelle Saxon. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 4 th , 2016 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448, Pastor Heather Pearle-Gillis officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton.
