Obituary

Sandra Elaine Kittilsen ~ Wilmot, NS

Born in Tiverton Nova Scotia in 1945, Sandra passed away the evening of January 26th, 2021, at her home in Wilmot with her family by her side.

Predeceased by her husband Thorleif Kittilsen and her parents, Sandra is survived by her children: Kristin Gough (Kenneth), Scott Kittilsen (Sharon), Derek Kittilsen (Beata), and her brother Billy Moran (Bonnie).

She was blessed to be a grandmother of five grandchildren and one great grandchild: Mitchell, Connor, Jenna, Ryan, Oscar, and Eric; and Aunt to Nicholas and Nathan Moran.

She had a wonderful circle of friends who were close and dear to her, and for the last 11 years she enjoyed the companionship and adventures she had with her partner David Mack. She and David spent a lot of time together, especially on the weekends.

They were part of a lovely TGIF group which took turns hosting a gathering to celebrate great food, drink, and friendships. They often spent time on the Bay of Fundy visiting with David's son and family at their cottage. They enjoyed traveling, whether it be a trip to various locations within the province or jumping on a plane to a warmer destination. They made regular trips to Texas to visit David's daughter in the spring and fall. The last few years they choose to spend a month or two in Florida during our coldest months of winter. David took in a stray cat a while ago whom he affectionately named Tory. Sandra thought a lot of Tory and so the evening FaceTime conversations always involved David, Sandra, and Tory.

Sandra spent her childhood in the seaside community of Tiverton, later moving to Dartmouth with her family in her teenage years. She graduated from Dartmouth High and later from Halifax Vocational School where she studied Business Administration.

Sandra married her high school sweetheart Thor Kittilsen, and the two travelled with their children to many places and temporary homes across the country through Thor's military postings. Their last posting brought them to CFB Greenwood where Sandra completed the last years of her career on the military base.

Sandra was a highly active and vibrant woman. She cherished the simple things in life and enjoyed a special love and talent for the art of rug-hooking and stain glass design. She and her husband created various pieces of furniture together, combining his custom-built designs and her stained-glass art. Many of which grace the homes of family and friends.

With a lifelong love of the ocean, she enjoyed scouring the Margaretsville shoreline for beach glass and as a result has many vases and various containers, filled with her shoreline treasures.

Sandra loved to decorate her homes and was known for frequently rearranging furniture to create a new look. She was no stranger to a paint brush and often changed the color of her walls and furniture to add a touch of flare. She was always interested in the latest trends. How she looked forward to her monthly subscription of Canadian House and Home Magazine!

The family home on Stronach Mountain road was a frequent location for large gatherings of family where she prepared plentiful meals. Sandra enjoyed entertaining guests and took great pride in the presentation and preparation of her home and food. So much so that she and Thor opened their home to guests by creating the Maggie K Bed and Breakfast for many years.

As well as design, decorating, cooking, baking, gardening, and traveling, Sandra loved fashion.  She always dressed in style whether going to a party or the local grocery store, and was rarely spotted without high heeled shoes! Sandra was an animal lover and constant caregiver to the many cats and dogs that managed to make their way into her home over the years. She was often called upon to look after her family's and friends' pets, which she always did without hesitation. Sandra was a bright light in this world who will be missed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home; 398 Main St. toll free 855-825-3448. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Carey Me Fund - Supporting Palliative Care in the Home, Companion Animal Protection Society, or the SPCA.Online guest book maybe signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com

My mom is a never

ending song in my heart

of comfort, and happiness,

and being. I may

sometimes forget the

words but I always

remember the tune.
