FRITZ, Sherilyn Maurine (Sarty) ~ Passed away peacefully, Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, in the QEII Infirmary, Halifax, NS, with daughters Katherine and Debbie, son in law Chad, granddaughter Cassidy, and grandson Connor by her side, and joined through FaceTime by her other four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born on July 17th, 1938, in New Canada, Lunenburg Co., NS to Earl and Maurine (Smith) Sarty. Sherilyn attended the Annapolis Royal Academy from 1944 to 1954. In 1954 the family moved to Middleton where she graduated high school at MRHS. She was active in drama, choral, volleyball, basketball, debating and was class secretary. Mama always liked to remind us of how she loved school and was a top notch student, with high marks. She held the position of secretary of the Young People's Group in Annapolis, along with singing in the Junior and Senior Choirs and attending Brownies and Guides. In Middleton, she was in the CGIT group, Senior Choir, was an assistant Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. Moving to Dartmouth in 1962 she attended First Baptist Church, Dartmouth. She sang in the Senior Choir, was a member of the Ladies Sewing Circle, holding position of President and Secretary, taught Sunday School and was active in Couples Club. Our family, being members of the National Campers and Hikers Association, spent weekends from May to October, camping with our group, the Kingfisher Kampers. Mom, along with dad, held the positions of Secretary and President. Moving back to Middleton in 1976, she along with dad formed a Couple's Fun and Fellowship group at Middleton Baptist Church. She was treasurer of the Middleton and District Rink Commission for 4 years and a member of the fundraising committee. She held the position of Director/ Treasurer of the Port George Regional Recreation Centre, also treasurer of the Mount Hanley United Pastorate, as well as organist/ pianist and a deacon. She served as Secretary, Vice-President and President of the Four C's Ladies group in Port George, was Chairman of the Port George & District Lighthouse Society - instrumental in obtaining ownership of the Port George Lighthouse for the community. Director/ Treasurer of the Cottage Cove District Wharf Society - instrumental in obtaining ownership the wharf in 2011. Mom loved to sing. The Fritz family plus one (Muriel O'Hara) spent many years singing at special services at various churches in the area. She was organist of the Clarence Baptist Church for 9 years and for several years at Victoria Vale Baptist Church. She made her last debut Sunday, June 15th. She loved getting her spiritual fix every week and sharing with her church family. She was also an avid hockey fan and loved her Toronto Maple Leafs. Mom worked various jobs throughout her career, retiring from the Bank of Nova Scotia, Middleton, after 23 years.
Sherilyn is survived by her children, Bonnie (Tom) Leggett, Nictaux; Katherine Fritz, Melvern Square; Patricia Fritz, Meadowvale; Deborah (Chad) Trenholm, Cole Harbour; Michael (Darla) Fritz, Vermilion, Alberta; Sherri Gail (Paul) Freeman, Kingston; niece, Janice (Paul) McNeil, Kingston; grandchildren, Joseph "Joey" Taylor, Larissa Goucher, Shannon & Norman Leggett, Bradley & Chelsey Campbell, Nathan Welton, Cassidy & Connor Trenholm, Logan & Laura Freeman, Liam & Aiden Fritz; great nieces, Rebecca & Courtney McNeil; great nephew, Gregory McNeil; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 great-great nephews; cousins, Barbara Delong, Paul Smith, Gerald (Donna) Smith, Donna (Victor) Dillman, Paul Wagner (Vickie), Wayne Mackay, Linda Smith, Jocelyn Rhodenizer.
Sherilyn was predeceased by her husband Glendon "Glenn"; her parents; in-laws, Leigh and Elma (Mackenzie) Fritz; brother-in-law, Maynard; sister Lorraine Hines; niece, Lynn Hines; infant grandson, Daniel Trenholm; and great grandson Chance Taylor.

There will be no visitation. A private family graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 5th, 2025, at Hillside Cemetery, Port George, with Rev. Lloyd Gillieo officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448.
