MacLean, Sherman LeRoy – age 82 of Nictaux, NS passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in the Valley Hospice, Kentville. Born in Middleton, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Ronald and Helena (Armstrong) MacLean.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara (Lohnes) MacLean; sons, Scott (Deanna) MacLean, Kentville, N.S., Dean (Ursula) MacLean, Victoria, B.C., and Douglas (Sarah) MacLean, Deerfield, New Hampshire; stepson, Steve (Dawn) Garnett, Cleveland, Ohio; stepdaughter, Debbie Garnett, Chandler, Arizona; grandsons, Collin and Devin MacLean, New Hampshire, and Angus and Benjamin MacLean, Kentville, N.S.; step-grandsons, Ryan Stoner, Arizona, and Blaze Garnett, Ohio; step-granddaughter, Sarah Garnett, Arizona; great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Josephine “J.J.” MacLean, New Hampshire; brother, Kenneth MacLean, Margaretsville, N.S.; nieces, Lisa Richards, Nova Scotia, and Michelle MacLean, Nova Scotia; brother-in-law, Claude Lohnes, Holden, Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Ruth Farris, Berwick, N.S.; six great-nephews; and several step-nieces and step-nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia (Durant) MacLean.
At the age of 20, Sherman moved to the United States, where he served in the U.S. Army for two years, followed by four years in the reserves. He lived in Billerica, Massachusetts, before relocating his family back to Nova Scotia in 1977. He worked in the autobody trade for most of his life. Sherman enjoyed camping and travelling with his RVs and truck campers. He wintered in Mesa, Arizona for many years and, in 2019, drove across Canada to Alaska.
In keeping with Sherman’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations in Sherman’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Valley Hospice Foundation, Kentville, where he received excellent care in his final days,
