Obituary

HARDY (DeMont) Sherrill Sandra ~ Age 79, Millville, Kings Co., formerly of St. Croix, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Monday, December 31, 2018, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on March 10, 1939, in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Hattie DeMont. Sherrill grew up in a loving home on Hartville Road, God's country and following completion of high school at Windsor Academy married Pat Hardy. Sherrill was proud of her working career which spanned almost 40 years. Starting in 1957, she was responsible for billing and payments at Glubes in Halifax. Son, Matthew was born in 1962. Sherrill continued to work at Glubes until the birth of her second son, Joe, in 1966. She joined Twin Cities Credit Bureau in Halifax in 1969, where she interviewed personnel and did financial counselling. In 1974, Sherrill joined Pat and became a member of the Hants Journal in Windsor. Then in 1976, they purchased Berwick Publishing/The Register. In 1981, she became food services manager at the Apple Press Beverage Room. A loyal clientele helped tremendously when they open Pat's Kitchen. This mobile catering business service the Berwick area supplying 25 convenience stores throughout the valley with fresh food and senior citizens with Meals on Wheels. In 1988, they joined Northeast Foods to supply 100 convenience stores with subs and sandwiches until her retirement. Sherrill was an exceptional cook and enjoyed gardening. Her gardens were beautiful, one summer she grew enough beans to feed all of Millville. Sherrill loved her family and extended families dearly. She would glow when granddaughter, Kate and grandson, Daniel were in the room. Sherrill enjoyed camping and Brier Island was one of her favorite places. Surviving are son, Joe (Debbie) Hardy, Windermere; granddaughter, Katherine; grandson, Daniel; siblings, Barbara Barkhouse; June MacDougal; Reuben (Betty) DeMont; Rosemary Mosher; Beverly Fletcher; Glenna (James) Dempsey; Celeste DeMont; brothers-in-law, Wayne Williams and Gordon Dearman. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a son, William Matthew Hardy; sister, Margaret Williams; brother, Frederick DeMont. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. All are welcome to attend a memorial service at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 4, in Berwick Baptist Church, with Chaplain Jennifer Longley officiating. A reception will follow in the Chipman Annex of the church. Interment in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
