Bent, Shirley Margaret – 101, of Lawrencetown, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026 in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton with family by her side. Born in Bridgetown, she was a daughter of the late Solomon and Mary Ellen (Durling) Lowe.
Mom was very proud of all of her children and grandchildren and loved them all unconditionally. God could not have given us a better mom. (Her daughter, Donna has always been thankful for Mom being with her in one of the hardest times of her life. Mom took care of her and stayed with her through seven months of cancer treatments. She doesn’t know what she would have done without her. Mom was her best friend.) Mom was a stay at home mom until we were all old enough to take care of ourselves. Then she went to work at the Lawrencetown Firemen’s Restaurant and later went to work at Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown as a Personal Care Worker for 17 years until her retirement. She was a long time member of Lawrencetown United Baptist Church and Ladies Auxilliary.
Mom loved to feed the birds (the squirrels not so much) and enjoyed doing Lexicon word puzzles. She spent countless hours tending to her flower gardens which were always beautiful. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her daughters, Donna Bent, Lawrencetown; Joy Taylor, Port Williams; sons, David (Donna) Bent, Elmsdale; Graham (Judy) Bent, Middleton; grandchildren, Krista Jensen, Port Williams; Jennifer Bent, Elmsdale; Nicole Bent, Pleasantville; Brianna Bent (Trevor), Nictaux; Jayden Bent, Middleton; great grandchildren, Chase, David, and Amberlynn. Mom and her granddaughter, Nicole had a special and loving bond together.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 75 years, Donald Bent; her sisters, Frances Greenough, Patsy Gillis; and her brothers, Harley, Eugene, Reginald, David and Allen.
Special thanks to the staff of Senior Homecare by Angels for mom’s care while still at home. Thank you to the staff at Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre during her time there.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held for both Donald and Shirley at 1:30p.m. on Wednesday, September 16 in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Family flowers only. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, 1-855-825-3448. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Lawrencetown United Baptist Church, or the IWK Children’s Hospital.
