Obituary

The family of Shirley Glaholm of Nanaimo, BC and Nova Scotia, are saddened to inform you their beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister, recently passed away at Nanaimo General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Middleton, NS, she was a daughter of the late Nelson Burnaby and Helen Gertrude (Lyttle) Waterman. Shirley attended the MacDonald Consolidated and Middleton Regional High School, and worked for years at Eisner's Restaurant as a waiter, MT&T as a switchboard operator worked at Soldiers Memorial Hospital as a receptionist and switchboard operator, all in Middleton. She also lived in Europe as a military wife on and off, returning to Canada and eventually settling in Nanaimo in the early 1970's. Shirley was devoted to her family and was always ready with advice and empathy for family members when needed. She and husband Dave had an almost daily routine of visiting "Tim's" at the mall and people watched and window shopped. She is survived by daughters Sharl-Anne Briere of Halifax, Suzanne Jamieson and Christine Glaholm of Nanaimo. Also left to mourn are 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews in BC and Alberta and her brother John Waterman of Middleton. Besides her parents, Shirley was pre-deceased by her first husband Andre Damien, her second husband of more than 55 years David Glaholm, daughter Darlene Damien-Denman, and sister Patricia (Pat) Casselman. As per Shirley's wishes, she has been returned to Nova Scotia where a visitation by invitation only with friends and relatives will be held Monday, March 29, at 11 am, in the Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St. Middleton toll free 1-855-825-3448. Afterwards, a committal service and interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Middleton. Reverend Karen Ralph officiating. Arrangements have been co-ordinated by the Sands Funeral Home in Nanaimo and the Middleton Funeral Home.
