Shirley was born and raised in Lake Paul until the age of 14 and then returned to raise her own family there.  Her home was always filled with family and friends.  Shirley tried her hand at many things while raising her family, hairdressing, accounting, taxi driving, selling Avon and driving a drycleaning van.  She ran a canteen and bakery at the lake one summer.  She picked apples in the fall.  She and Vaughn loved camping and spent many summers at Graves Island in Chester before Vaughn's passing.  Shirley loved to travel and made a few trips driving across Canada.  She travelled to Alaska and had two trips to Cuba with family.  She also went to Bangor and Nashville on bus tours.  After Vaughn's passing Shirley followed a life-long dream and bought the Driftwood Restaurant in Berwick which she operated for eight years.

Shirley was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick, where she held several positions.  Shirley strongly supported her community and helped start both the Windermere and Lake Paul Community Clubs. She supported the Lake Paul Substation of the Aylesford & District Volunteer Fire Department. She loved bingo, darts and card playing.  From an early age Shirley loved to play guitar and sing with family and continued to do so up until the last few years.

A private family interment service was held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, August 21, in the Morristown Cemetery, with Pastor Randy Hiltz officiating. All are welcome to attend a celebration of Shirley's Life (that has been re-scheduled) and will now take place from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, November 4 , in Morristown Community Centre, 10 Prospect Rd., Morristown.
