Obituary

Ward, Shirley Lillian – 79 of Wilmot passed away September 18, 2022, in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Glace Bay, she was the youngest daughter of the late Ewen and Annie (Robinson) MacKenzie. As a young lady of just 17, she left Mira, NS to train as a CNA at the Kentville Sanatorium. While in training in Kentville, she met her husband Bob, and they married February 26, 1963.  Shirley worked at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton, and lastly on the DVA Unit when it opened. Shirley and Bob were owners/operators of RB Paving for over 40 years. She was a founding member of the Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church, Middleton. Shirley was involved with Meals On Wheels, the Seniors Watch Care Program, and Vacation Bible School. Shirley enjoyed sharing her love of music by playing the piano at seniors' homes. Music was in her heart, and she had a natural talent to play the piano by ear. She was a natural leader and an inspiration to all who knew her. Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. She was loved by all who knew her and had a spirit of immense kindness and empathy. She was a lady to the end, and our rock always. She is survived by daughters, Shonna McCormick (Kari), Calgary, AB, grandchildren, Kyle(Colleen), Shae Sherjan, Emilia, and Josh, all of Calgary, AB,  great-grandson Winston Sherjan; Connie Harry (James McMaster), Kingston, NS, grandchildren, Katie, Calgary, AB, and Kristy (Lindsay Bligh), Dempsey's Corner, NS, great-grandson, Henry Bligh; Cathy MacDonald (Bowie Langille), Torbrook Mines, NS, grandchildren, James (Kersten), South Farmington, NS, Josie, Digby, NS, great-grandsons, Jr. MacDonald, and Waylon MacDonald; great-granddaughters, Rileigh MacDonald, and Ellie Andrews; son, Michael (Tracy) Ward, South Farmington, NS, grandchildren, Clea and Jayson both of South Farmington, NS; two sisters, Rae MacKillop, Glace Bay, NS, and Marilyn Hilborn (Bill Acaster), Welland, ON.
