Obituary

WAGNER, Sidney Roger ~ 86 of South Farmington, passed away March 7, 2026, at Valley Hospice, Kentville, with his wife Barbara by his side after a life well lived. Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Sidney was the son of the late Colin Wagner and Elsie Wagner (Barkhouse). Sidney left Nictaux in his later teens and worked at the Chronicle Herald in Halifax for 17 years as a type machinist before returning to his beloved Annapolis Valley to raise his family. Sidney built his family's home and homes for many others before employment with larger construction firms as a foreman. Sidney shared his skills of woodworking as a 4-H leader for many years. But Sidney's greatest achievement in building was Above Par, a par 3 golf course in South Farmington behind the family home. What began as a retirement project in 1996 turned into a decades long experience sharing the love of golf and the outdoors with people from all over. He particularly enjoyed cutting the grass and talking with those on the course. Sidney's sense of humour and love of life will always be remembered. He was always there to lend a helping hand to a friend or a stranger. Sidney is survived and will be forever missed by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (nee Crawford); daughter, Nancy (Steve), South Farmington; sons, Paul (Crystal), South Farmington and David (Sharan), West Bedford; brother, Donald (Brenda), New Albany; and sister, Audrey (Peter), Melvern Square. Dave and Sharan's daughter Anna was the apple of her Grampy's eye. He was predeceased by his cherished grandson, Jacob Mark, son of David and Sharan, whom he now joins in rest. Sidney is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, lifelong friends and neighbours. Sidney was predeceased by sister, Pauline; sister, Irene and brother-in-law, Larry Finlayson; brother, Stanley (Kathy Grant); brothers-in-law, Bill Crawford and Ned Crawford. Sidney was also predeceased by nephews, David Finlayson, Derek Crawford and Wendell Wagner. Our family would like to acknowledge the care given to our father, since his diagnosis of a brain tumor by Dr. Luma Al-Ameri, palliative care nurse Janet Welton and Samantha Kenneally of Meraki Homecare whose concern and attention allowed dad to stay at home as long as he did. Family friend Nancy Powell gave the greatest gift of all, helping to care for Sidney at home. Nancy's contribution to our family was priceless. A private interment service will take place in Nictaux Cemetery, at a later date. In memory of Sidney please consider a donation to Valley Hospice Foundation or one's charity of choice.
