Obituary

Thompson, Stanley (Stan) Francis MacKinnon (70) - passed away peacefully surrounded by family at daughter's home in Wolfville, NS on December 4, 2013. Born on Easter Sunday April 18, 1943 in Overton, Yarmouth Co. to the late Ernest Thompson (Bernice MacKinnon). He is survived by his loving family; wife Terri (Lowe) and 4 children: Alicia (Rob), Robert (Nancy), Sally-Lynn, Kyle (Anna), and seven grandchildren (Connor, Emma, Jayne, Benjamin, Mitchell, Christopher, and one on the way). Sisters: Jeanette Cunningham (deceased), Marjorie (Bill Newell, Overton), Jessie (Wayne Deyarmond, Bible Hill). Brothers: Ernest Jr ("Bud")(Margaret Pembrooke, Yar. Co.), Harold (Ann, Kempt, Yar. Co)., and Randall (deceased). Always the gentleman, soft spoken and congenial at all times - his children were first in his life. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather, a conscientious worker. After high school, he pursued a career with the Bank of Montreal as a banking officer from Yarmouth to Halifax to Glace Bay and the Lunenburg Branch as Assistant Manager. In 1979, Stan found a position he liked as a Purchasing Agent for the Town of Bridgewater, by becoming a Certified Public Buyer through a college credit program with AMPA until his retirement in 1996. Stan was an avid hunter, loved the outdoors and spending time with his family, was also gifted in designing homes and in later years enjoyed crossword puzzles and Crokinole. Graduated from Dartmouth Vocational in 1973 as an Architectural Draftsman. Stan served on many charitable committees over the years as treasurer. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home in Middleton, NS, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. Visitation will be held at the Middleton Funeral Home on Sunday December 8, 2013 from 2-4pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday December 9, 2013 at 2:00pm at Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church, 37 Gates Ave, Middleton, NS with Pastor Sweis Ubels officiating.
