LeGard, Stephen William- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Stephen LeGard on March 3, 2013. Born in Halifax on September 30, 1962, he was a son of Dianne Hankinson LeGard and the late Leonard LeGard. Stephen attended schools in both Dartmouth and Middleton. In 1985 he completed the Silviculture Worker Level 1 Training Program. In the late 1980's Stephen, along with his mother, Dianne owned and operated LeGard's Forestry Services Ltd. He attended NSCC Cape Breton (89/90) and successfully completed the Forestry Worker Program. In September of 1990 he obtained his Nova Scotia Provincial Scaler's License. He then decided to move to British Columbia, where he completed the Utility Arbourist Certification Program while he worked for Asplunde, who did contract work for BC Hydro. Returning home in 1994, Stephen worked along with the rest of the family creating the Falcourt Inn in Nictaux. Stephen enjoyed canoeing and horseback riding and loved the great outdoors. He was a member of the Banook Canoe Club in Dartmouth, where he enjoyed paddling in the early 1970's. He was predeceased by his father, Leonard LeGard; paternal grandparents Henry "Harry" and Susan (McCurdy) LeGard and maternal grandparents, Thomas and Marguerite (Drake) Hankinson. Steve will be sadly missed by his mother, Dianne; brother, Derek; sister, Susan and his best friend and partner, Nancy McNeil. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM , Saturday, March 9, 2013 in the Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. Private family interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton . A reception for family and friends will follow service in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Middleton. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
