Obituary

PALMER, Sylvia Lina age 78 of Berwick passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Madeline (Dunn) Ryan. After graduating high school Sylvia took a stenographer's course and worked for a short time at the Canadian Canners in Middleton; from there she worked for several years as secretary at the Department of Highways in Middleton and in later years she worked at the Berwick Fruit Company. Following that she co-owned Valley Farm Supplies with her husband, managing it for the duration. Sylvia was a former member of the Middleton United Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a C.G.I.T leader. Transferring to the Berwick United Baptist Church, she served on different committees, was in the church choir and was financial secretary. In later years she transferred to Kingston United Baptist Church. Sylvia loved to read, garden and to do puzzles and crafts. She helped for several years at the Berwick clothing and food bank. She loved animals and had many adopted cats from shelters over the years. For a number of years she and her husband were foster parents to less fortunate children through World Vision. Sylvia is survived by brothers, Jack (Sharelle) Ryan, Kitchener, ON; Roger (Brenda) Ryan, Berwick; sister, Helen (Mike) Parker, Dartmouth and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Arnold Palmer (2015) and brother, Rodney Ryan, Chezzetcook. By request there will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held 2:00PM, Monday, September 21, 2015 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448, with Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the S.P.C.A.
