Thelma Marie Callicott passed away surrounded by family and caring staff at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown on the evening of August 31, 2016. Thelma was the daughter of the late Leroy & Laura (Slauenwhite) Whitman, born April 13, 1922 in the Village of Lawrencetown. She was a long standing member of the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church and a member of the choir. Music was her passion and she sang all her life even on her deathbed. She is survived by children, John (Diane),Camrose, Alberta, Eric(Wendy) St Albert, Alberta, Lynette Gilks, Lawrencetown, Roy (Norma) Sherwood Park, Alberta and Deborah (Craig) Webber, Lawrencetown. She had nineteen beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by brothers; Charles and Frank Whitman and sister Laura Gehue and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Ayre Callicott (1977), who she met in Debert, NS while teaching in Masstown, NS. Following their marriage in 1943 she followed him to England with a newborn in tow. They returned to Canada in 1947. They travelled to many postings across Canada, retiring in 1971 to Lawrencetown. She was also predeceased by brothers Douglas in infancy and Harland Whitman. Sisters; Myrna Whitman, Barbara Roscoe, Sylvia Wood, and Geneva Wood. The family wishes to recognize special friend to Mom, Wilbur Ramey. She dearly loved life on the farm. Thanks to the Lawrencetown Restaurant for their many years of holding her table, she loved you all. Our special thanks to family friend, Valerie Shaffner and all those who provided special care and patience at Mountain Lea. Celebration of Life and reception will be held at the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday Sept 6, 2016, Rev. Patty Beals officiating. Burial to follow in Whitman Cemetery. Family Flowers only and memorial donations may be made to the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church Current Account or charity of choice.
