Thelma Jean
Huntley
June 25, 1938 – May 17, 2024
HUNTLEY (Nauss), Thelma Jean ~ of South Berwick, Kings Co., beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 17, 2024, in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Born June 25, 1938, in Morristown, NS, Thelma was the daughter of the late Ronald and Erna (Fancy) Nauss. On January 14, 1956, she married Harris Huntley of South Berwick, where they settled and raised their family. Thelma is survived by her husband, Harris; children, Martin (Gail), Marlene (Simeon), Philip (Cathy) and Denise (Wade); grandchildren, Lori, Mark, Rhiannon, Samuel, Evan, Ryan, Logan, and Rachel; and great-grandchildren, Caleb and Leah. She is also survived by sister, Inez Chute; and twin sister, Velma DiBartolo; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son, Wayne; sister, Mabel Vaughan.
Thelma loved to be active! She was president of the Berwick & District Figure Skating Club, and president/past-president and secretary of many groups including the Anglican Church Women (Christ Church, Berwick), the South Berwick Women's Institute (where she was a lifetime member), the West Kings Women's Institute, and the Berwick Belles 'n Beaus Square Dance Club. One of her and Harris's weekly dates was square dancing; they were involved with the club for over 50 years. Thelma was also a Cursillista and participated in many Cursillos over the decades.
Handiwork was a specialty of Thelma's – sewing, knitting, smocking, quilting and rug hooking were all talents she shared with others. She ensured all family members had one or more of her beautiful creations, whether a figure skating dress with all the trim, a wedding gown, smocked christening gown, or maybe a quilt, rug-hooked pillow, mat or wall-hanging. She was an adult figure skater, participating in a precision line group well into her 70's. She loved music and life at the cottage at Armstrong Lake. Most of all, she loved her family and any activity with them was the best!
