Obituary

REEVES, Theodore Roderick "Rod" - 72, Somerset, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a brief courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 27, 1941, in Berwick, he was a son of the late Theodore D. and Ada M. (Cook) Reeves. On June 20, of this year Rod proudly celebrated 45 years of membership in Valley Lodge No. 90, A.F. & A.M., Berwick, where he had served twice as master, had been on the third degree drama team, held other positions and was a past District Grand Chaplain for Kings District. He worked for nine years at the Berwick Bakery and 35 years at Larsen Packers Ltd., Berwick, in Shipping and Transport, retiring as Traffic Manager. Rod was a veteran member of the Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department, with 16 years of service. He was a friend of Bill W. for 18 years, after his retirement he enjoyed volunteering and working at Crosbie House in New Minas, with "Bridging the Gap" for 11 years. Rod had also volunteered at the Detox Unit at Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton, for 11 years paying his knowledge forward. He especially loved his grandchildren, who called him "Bump", time spent at the cottage, feeding and watching the many birds that came to his property. Rod is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jean E. (Misner) Reeves; daughter, Denise and her husband, David Allen, Berwick, and their children, Matthew (Megan) and Jonathon (Elysia); son, Roddie Reeves, Berwick, and his children, Maddie and Spencer, and fiancé, Dana St. Louis and her children, Melissa, Tyler and Abby; sisters, Gloria (John) MacIsaac, Digby; Ardyth (Robert) O'Leary, Upper Dyke; Ann (Howard) MacCumber, Cambridge; Doreen Brunt, Diane Zimmerman, both of Berwick; Sharon (Carl) Adams, Cambridge; brother, Robert Reeves, Cambridge; aunt, Polly Murphy, South Berwick; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Bill Reid; nephew, Steven Brown.All are welcome to attend a Masonic Tribute at 7 p.m., Friday, August 15, followed by visitation until 9 p.m., both in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 16, in the Berwick Baptist Church, Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating, with a reception to follow. Burial will take place in the East Black Rock Cemetery. Family Flowers only, donations in Rod's memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Annapolis Valley Branch, Palliative Care Fund of A.V.R.H. or to any charity. Rod's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, palliative care team and the V.O.N. for the care given to him. They are very appreciative to their family and friends for visits, phone calls, food and prayers that have helped through this difficult time.
