Obituary

ROGERS, Thomas Hugh "Tom" - 78 of Kingston passed away peacefully Friday, January 20, 2012 in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Arvida, Quebec he was a son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Gillis) Rogers. Tom joined the RCAF in 1952 as an aircraft technician and had postings in St. Hubert, Que., Bagotville, Que. and Cold Lake, Alberta. He also served 2 terms of duty overseas in both 4 Wing, Germany and 2 Wing in France. He came to Greenwood in 1967 where he finished out his military career. He then worked in Ottawa for Emergency Preparedness Canada for 10 years before retiring back to Nova Scotia in 1999. Tom was an avid military history buff, and he also enjoyed listening to music. Learning a new instrument was a challenge he undertook with great gusto. Although a quiet man, Tom was known by those who were close to him for his quick wit and comical sense of humor. His great love, besides his family, was golf. He enjoyed playing a few games a week and was never as happy as when the snow started to melt off the greens in the spring. Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years the former Pauline Marie Petrie; daughter Brenda Harper, Greenwood and Joann (Bruce) Forbes, Wilmot. Sons Philip (Ling), UAE; Michael, Kingston and Paul, Calgary; grandchildren Jason Smedley, Jeremy Smedley, Dylan Harper, Kelsey Viner and Jian Yong Rogers. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. A memorial mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25th in the Queen of Heaven Chapel, 14 Wing Greenwood, Father Timothy Nelligan officiating. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Kingston. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
