Obituary

PSUTKA, Thomas "Tom" Michael -Age 66, of North Kingston, Kings Co., passed away peacefully at Soldier's Memorial Hospital in Middleton with family by his side on Monday August 28, 2023. Born in Kitchener, ON he was the son of the late Joseph and Dolores (Hurley) Psutka. Tom spent most of his life as a long-haul truck driver retiring in 2008 after a move from Alberta, where he lived for 30 years, to Nova Scotia with his family. He continued to dabble in his passion for carpentry and was a jack of all trades. He helped anyone who needed it and was loved by all who met him. He had a magnetic personality and was always even tempered and took life in stride with a positive outlook. Tom loved the outdoors and was always seen "tinkering" with some chore outside at his home where he loved to spend his time. He fought his cancer with every ounce of strength and never gave up hope. He was truly an inspiration to all about how a human being should be. He loved his family dearly and did everything for them. One of his favourite things to do was stay a few days in Halifax on the harbor and walk the boardwalk with his wife or rent a segway for a tour of the city.  Tom leaves behind his loving wife, Heather Withnell and children, daughter Samantha Withnell (Nathan Benedetto Proenꞔa ) ON; son, Brandon Withnell of North Kingston; sisters, Mary-Jane Potvin (Conestoga, Ontario), Janice Loan, Judy (Doug) Aitken, and Cathy (Shawn) O'Toole, all of Kitchener, Ontario, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph "Joe" and Dolores (Hurley) Psutka and brother-in-law Rob Potvin. He will also be dearly missed by his many special friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Sean McGee whom Tom trusted completely and treated Tom with such compassion and respect, the palliative care team, Dr. Karen Burch and Nurse Janet Welton for their care and understanding, as well as the VON team, all of the doctors and nurses at the Victoria General hospital in Halifax, the nurses at Soldier's Memorial hospital, which came to be his final destination. Sincere thanks to the EHS supervisor Matthew who helped me get Tom home and the 2 paramedics who came from Bridgewater to assist in bringing Tom home. A special thank you to Milferd and Shirley Unruh of the Halifax Haven Guest Home, who showed such great compassion towards us in our time of need and to Middleton Funeral Home staff for their help and guidance. Also thank you to all of our family and friends for all of your support. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Halifax Haven Guest Home, 5897 Inglis St., Halifax, NS B3H 1K7. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 2:00-6:00 pm at Tom's residence in North Kingston.
